Christmas Comparison

Christmas Comparison

Cute families, matching PJs, and extravagant gifts are exciting when you’re the one partaking in the fun! However, it can be difficult to digest when your reality is far from the picture-perfect Christmas showcased on your timeline.

Social media has always been a place where comparison lurks, but it becomes increasingly unavoidable during the holiday season. Christmas is a joyous time meant to reflect on the birth of Christ and life’s blessings, but if social media has you shunning the Christmas spirit, then I have a few tips to help you through your comparison crisis.

Remember Your Life is Dope, Too.

We can become so fixated on what we don’t have that we neglect to acknowledge our own dopeness. You may not be able to take matching pictures with bae this season, but there are pieces of your life that deserve to be celebrated! If you need help remembering the wonderful things about you, start a list and refer to it daily so you never forget!

Unfollow accounts that you make you feel bad

Christmas is a great time for individuals to showcase their red and green holiday festivities. But if their celebrations leave you feeling upset or insecure, you may need to unfollow (or temporarily mute) these accounts. Don’t subject yourself to unnecessary hurt.

Log off and Enjoy YOUR life

If unfollowing accounts isn’t sufficient, take a break from social media altogether and start focusing on YOU! Start that new hobby, finish that personal project you’ve been putting off, get started on your new year’s fitness goals! Focus your energy on you and less on others.

Remember, social media was created to connect individuals in a safe space, but if the intended purpose slips this holiday season, don’t be afraid to take the necessary steps to guard your peace.
