Working Mom

Working Mom

Whew! You can officially write my name in the book of working mothers!

My first week back at work was not nearly as scary as I had anticipated. My team is incredibly flexible and is easing me back into the grind. The week was slightly unusual since we decided to retreat to Dallas in preparation for Hurricane Laura. Fortunately, she passed over Houston, but it was still an excellent excuse to get out of the house and see some friends.

It’s only been a week, but I’m sharing four things I’ve already learned about working at home with an infant.

Time Management is KEY

Procrastination has no place in a working mother’s vocabulary. Balancing my work, home, and health requires extreme discipline and time management skills. I force myself to tackle complex problems during naptime and focus on the smaller tasks (like responding to emails) once while Grayson is awake.

There were several things I wasn’t able to get around to this week, so I’ll be starting my day at 4:30 to squeeze in my workout and daily devotions every morning.

Adjustments Required

Every day is different with an infant. The rock, bottle, cuddle combo that worked flawlessly on Monday may be an epic fail on Tuesday. And it’s ok! I’m learning to reset my expectations daily and adjust as necessary.

Grace Is Essential

Before becoming a mother, I didn’t welcome grace for myself or my schedule. I was continually measuring the distance between my “to-do” and done, and would beat myself up when the gap seemed too large.

With all that I’m balancing, there is no room for the daily beat-up session. So I’m granting myself grace to do the best I can when I can.

The mamaroo swing is also ESSENTIAL

I’m always cautious about purchasing high ticket baby items because they’re hit-or-miss. I have expensive gadgets that Grayson hates and cheap things he can’t live without.

While visiting my mommy friend in Dallas, she introduced Grayson to the Mamaroo Swing. And I saw the light! It has a”Car ride” mode that puts my baby in a trance. Before we left, I had already ordered one, so we didn’t have to go a day without it!
